Chenxu Loki Yan

Chenxu Loki Yan obtained his Bachelor of Neuroscience from UNSW in 2019. He is currently a third-year PhD candidate under the supervision of A/Prof. Yanchuan Shi at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. His research investigates the crosstalk between brown adipose tissue (BAT), pancreatic β-cells, and the brain in regulating glucose homeostasis and energy metabolism. Using unique genetic mouse models and cutting-edge molecular technologies, his work aims to uncover how thermogenic and neural pathways interact to influence insulin secretion and metabolic health. Loki’s recent studies focus on the role of BAT dysfunction in altered sympathetic activity and β-cell function, as well as the therapeutic potential of targeting adipose-derived signaling pathways.
